Connecting a Kodak Digital Camera using USB or Serial Port

The following section shows you how to connect a Kodak camera using a USB and a Serial Port.

KODAK DC240/DC280 Zoom Digital Camera Using a Serial Cable Connection

The most common means of connecting the camera to your computer is by serial cable connection. When connecting the camera, it is a good idea to use an AC adapter specified by Kodak.

Connecting to a Windows Computer

An RS-232 serial cable is provided so you can connect your camera to a Windows computer.

1.Set the Mode dial to Connect.

2.Plug the appropriate end of the serial cable into an available 9-pin serial port on the computer.

Serial ports are usually labeled COM1 and COM2, or A and B. If your computer has a 25-pin port, you need to use a 9-pin adapter (available at your local computer store) and attach it to the port before attaching the serial cable to the computer.

If the ports are not labeled, see your computer User's Guide for a diagram that illustrates all of the external ports.

3.Open the serial/USB port door on the side of the camera.

4.Plug the other end of the serial cable into the camera serial port.

5.Slide the POWER switch to the right to turn on the camera.

If you get a message on your computer stating that you are not connected, refer to Serial.pdf document installed with the software, or the online help for troubleshooting information.

Using a USB Cable Connection

If you have a personal computer and are running Windows 98, or a Macintosh computer, you may be able to connect the camera using a Universal Serial Bus connection. The USB interface provides an easy and faster alternative to serial cable connection. However, since USB connections are relatively new, Kodak only recommends and supports using the camera with the systems listed above. When connecting the camera, it is a good idea to use an AC adapter specified by Kodak.

1.Set the Mode dial to Connect.

2.Plug the appropriate end of USB cable into the port on the computer with the USB symbol.

If the port is not labeled, see your computer User's Guide for a diagram that illustrates all of the external ports.

3.Open the serial/USB port door on the side of the camera.

4.Plug the other end of the USB cable into the camera serial/USB port.

5.Slide the POWER switch to the right to turn on the camera.

• ComX Computers is a registered closed corporation and started trading in 2002. We are also registered as an importer and exporter.
• ComX Computers buys from the official suppliers in South Africa.
  
• Computer hardware and software are ordered on request. All products are couriered to the customer directly from the South African supplier.
• All Mecer computers and Mecer notebooks are built to specification and a 3 day build and test time is required.
• Pre-built computers and laptops cannot have specifications changed. You cannot change Operating Systems, CPUs or drives on pre-built configurations. You may upgrade some of these options after purchase.
• Personal computers and laptops, and all computer components are covered by the official warranty. The warranty is 'carry-in' - the product need to be returned to us in Pretoria (Tshwane) in South Africa. Certain brands offer types of warranty agreements - this may be a collect and return warranty, for example. Please enquire about getting additional cover if you are not in Gauteng (Pretoria, Midrand or Johannesburg). Mecer computers, laptops and Mecer branded hardware may be taken to any Mecer branch in South Africa. Irrespective of the type of warranty, all products are covered by the local supplier only.
